Senior Meteorological Officer
Met Éireann is recruiting Senior Meteorological Officers to fill a number of existing vacancies. Candidates are sought to work within the organisation in operational areas. These roles involve provision of management and technical support throughout Met Éireann’s offices and successful candidates may be appointed to work as part of a team covering 24/7 shifts – for example in the General Forecast Office, Flood Forecast Office, in the ICT Operations Office or in the Aviation Offices at some of Ireland’s airports. Staff assigned to shift roles will be in receipt of an additional 27% shift allowance.

SMOs recruited will be assigned to positions at a range of locations, including Met Éireann Headquarters in Glasnevin, Dublin 9 and State airports across the country (Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport, Cork Airport, Ireland West Airport, Casement Aerodrome).
They may be required to attend occasional meetings or training courses (in Ireland or abroad), or work for limited periods with external organisations or with other meteorological services. SMOs working in operational areas are regularly required to work shift duties (including night duties), covering weekends and Public Holidays. Shift work attracts a 27% shift allowance, which is paid in addition to the officer’s salary, on a fortnightly basis.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Met Éireann
Met Éireann, a line division of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, is seeking expressions of interest in a Postdoctoral Research position, which will commence as soon as possible. The following is a description of the role to be recruited for.
Postdoctoral Researcher – Research and Infrastructure Support for the Newly Established Irish Soil Moisture Observation Network (ISMON). (Fixed term Contract)
The ISMON long-term observation platform aims to significantly enhance our understanding of the water cycle in Ireland. Accurate information on soil moisture conditions from ISMON will further improve short- and medium-term weather prediction. Such monitoring and modelling, and associated advisories and decision support systems (DSS) will become increasingly important for a wide range of real-life applications, such as the protection of soil and water quality, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in farming and forestry, ensuring optimal grass and crop production, flood and forest fire risk management and forecasting.
Met Éireann are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with a scientific and technical skillset who will work together with colleagues in Met Éireann (Observations, Database, Agricultural Meteorology Unit etc.) and ISMON partner organisations to ensure the establishment of Ireland’s soil moisture observation network. The successful candidate will also engage with key stakeholders on the delivery of objectives.
